Cultural Storytelling EducationPilot, Spring pilot

Latinx Austin: La Crónica

Whose stories make it into the newspaper—and whose are left out? La Crónica invites students to explore the people, places, and everyday experiences that have shaped Latinx Austin, then connect that history to their own families and neighborhoods.

Students gather around a laptop during an E4 Youth digital storytelling workshop

Inside the workshop

Students work with archival images, guided discussion, and creative activities. They use the 5 Ws to examine how newspapers and community storytellers document history, preserve culture, and make sure community voices are heard.

What students practice

  • Looking closely at photographs and other historical materials
  • Asking who, what, when, where, and why
  • Sharing observations and ideas
  • Connecting family and neighborhood experiences to Austin history

What we are learning from the pilot

La Crónica is a spring pilot. Feedback from students and educators will help shape the next version of the workshop.

Why this story matters

Students learn that history is not only something that happened somewhere else or to someone famous. Their families, neighborhoods, and everyday experiences are part of Austin's story—and worth preserving.

Timing

The pilot is planned for spring.
